Speedy Snow Travel

Topic: 4E Friction

A 10-man team attempted the fastest ever vehicle crossing of Antarctica and reached the South Pole. The Moon Regan Transantarctic Expedition were testing a new type of vehicle, a propeller driven pod on three skis, in the 2,000 mile journey from Union Glacier to McMurdo.

In this activity children will learn about traditional vehicles for travelling across snow and investigate ways of reducing friction. They will predict which vehicle would be the best for snow travel.
